Abstract
This report summarises research carried out between 1999-2009 with teachers and pupils involved in the Dissolving Boundaries programme which has used ICT to foster collaborative learning between schools in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The report uses a case study approach of links between 'special',primary and secondary schools to illuminate the impact of the programme on pupils' perceptions and achievements. The study also highlights the impact on teachers' use of ICT and examines the nature of collaborative learning that has been fostered through the use of a virtual learning Environment and video-conferencing.Austin.R, Smyth.J, Mallon.M Rickard A, Flynn.P, Metcalfe.N,
