Abstract

This paper describes a computer based fabric design and manufacturing system for complex reinforcements for composite materials. The system permits the designer to manipulate the warp yams on screen and to form binders at various points throughout the construction, thus consolidating the structure. Simple fabric analysis allows the structure characteristics to be determined and hence validated against a predictive software program. Initial indications are that there is some correlation between the measured and predicted properties. This is due to the idealised yam path adopted in the `predicted' software.
