Abstract

Peter Richards planned a series of works (six in total) involving pinhole photographs, where a text that would be read and present as audio track would determine the length of exposure of the photographic paper. Having collaborated on the "Convergence: Literary Art Exhibitions" show 9Summer 2011, Golden Thread Gallery Belfast, where Peter is the Director), he asked me to select, read and stage the texts. I also chose clothing appropriate to each text.As the title of the current exhibition is "An Elective Family Tree", the texts chosen all have trees as their subject and sometimes the reading artist as a subject. They belong to different genres of text (novel, stage directions, visual artwork, poem) and were all subject of or are the outcome of artists' interest in reading. In this way, dense connections arise, an elective family tree is established.
