Abstract
John Hewitt was a champion of the written and spoken word of his native province. His work as poet, critic and book collector delighted in the textures of local speechand was instrumental in the rediscovery of numerous writers. His enthusiasm for theforgotten generations of Rhyming Weavers rekindled public interest in Ulster-Scotsliterature and language. This exhibition, created by the University of Ulster inpartnership with the Ulster-Scots Agency, celebrates the poets who inspired andguided Hewitt, and whose townlands today still earn their name in song
