Abstract
This article includes the findings of primary research with children in the Juvenile Justice Centre for Northern Ireland. It is based on an assessment of the extent to which custodial systems for children in Northern Ireland are compliant with international human rights standards, and in particular with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. It concludes that children's rights are still being breached in respect, for example, of the requirement that custody be a last resort, and that children be separated from adults in custody.
