Abstract

This innovation and regulatory affairs project has brought new liquid cheese and other dairy ingredient products and customers, pilot plant facility approval by the Department of Agriculture and British Retail Consortium (BRC) certification, and a regulatory affairs capability to a dairy ingredients company, whilst freeing up valuable strategic management time to drive business growth. The original project aim to develop the research science and regulatory affairs functions within the company was addressed. Evidence of achievement exists in the new onsite approved and certified pilot plant facilities for enzyme modified cheese (EMC) products and the business secured with a North American company for the supply of liquid cheese and another dairy ingredient product. The knowledge transferred in research science and regulatory affairs has helped to underpin a major strategic business project on EMC and flavour development in partnership with an Irish Dairy Research Serrvice provider, and support the company’s business development team in discussions with new and potential customers in North America and Europe on such areas as regulatory position and product specification, including nutrition and allergen declarations, and in the approval of suppliers and contract manufacturers in North American and New Zealand .
