Abstract

A series of 3 images which examine the classical techniques of representation and ways of drawing, spanning Durer to Rembrandt. Comparative analysis of treatments of graphic forms, particularly linear construction, led to a new body of work that interjected digital rendering to a rigorous methodology for analogue development of abstracted form. What is positive and what is negative? Addition and subtraction? How are form and space described by 2 dimensions of mark? How is space negotiated and understood on a flat plane? The reductive methodology dissected the academic linear drawing process -hatching, cross-hatching, and other tonal concentrations of line. Digitally generated drawing was then reintroduced to screenprint stencils. The forms in this series develop earlier work 'Tumble Series'2009. However here the references are obscured by a greater journey and the 'crossing over' narrative is ambiguous. There are references to iconic formats - portals, triptych, standing forms figures. The work has been peer reviewed into 'Watershed: A tale of Hong Kong and Belfast and shown in Hong Kong and in Millenium Court . The Fiesta was founded in 2000 and has flourished. In 2010 it included over 300 prints by 195 international artists in 5 venues across Hong Kong. The is full colour catalogue and accompanying programme of events ensures that the fiesta is recognised as raising the profile of printmaking and graphic art in Hong Kong and Beyond. 'Arrive' was illustrated and reviewed in Printmaking Today vol 20.no1 Spring 2011. "Arrive" H900x W630 mm"Depart" H900x W630 mm"Watershed" H900x W630 mm
