Abstract
Vessels of Memory is a touring exhibition of ceramics, paper, and glass, exploring ideas of memory through the use of unreal garments. It is supported by the Crafts Council of Ireland Exhibition Touring Fund. Rachel Dickson and Alison Lowry were selected to exhibit together at the CraftNi gallery, Belfast, in September 2010, by the director of Flow Gallery, London. This exhibition coincided with Culture Night Belfast, The artists gave four talks on the night, and had 1000 visitors at the opening. The work was subsequently shown in an empty shop front, Lisburn Road, Belfast, N.Ireland. The 'pop-up' gallery was in existance for 2 weeks in December 2010. the intention being to take the work to a non-traditional audience, bringing craft outside of the gallery and into a different context.'Vessels of Memory' then toured to Leitrim Design House in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co.Leitrim. the show was selected to exhibit from 10 February to 2 March 2011. An artist talk was given at the opening. The show was then installed at Roe Valley Cultural Centre, Limavady, N.Ireland, opening on 11 March 2011. An artist talk was given on 5 April 2011.The touring show is also featured as part of Ireland's Year of Craft.
