Abstract
As Guest Artist in Residence at the Clay Studio, Philadelphia, a centre for ceramic art research, 'Philadelphia Sentinel' was created exploring new surface treatments, based on naval dazzle camoflague and its ability ot deconstruct form through surface interrogation. Residency funded by Research Mission Award from the Crafts Council of Ireland C(CCoI).It has subsequently been selected for the 'Made in the Studio' exhibition of 5 Artists in Residence from 2009-10. The exhibition opens on August 6th 2010. In 2011 with a 14,000 euro grant from Culture Ireland and a 2000 euro grant from CCoI, the investigation continued to form part of the Irish Pavilion of the International ceramic Art Museums in Fuping China. Also in 2011 participation in the Intonation Symposium in Deidesheim Germany led to the 2012, 2 person exhibition of later developments in Dazzle surface investigation, at Galerie Marianne Heller April 15-May 27, with the 'Second Skin' Series. This exhibition recieved an External Exhibitions Award from CCoI. The conclusion of this body of research will occur in August 2012 with a return exhibition of the artists returning from Fuping China titles 'Bricks in the Rain'. This will involve audio and sound projections of the time in China from archivist and film maker who accompanied the group and will open at the Farmleigh Gallery Dublin, with plans to tour.
