Abstract

Art Benches, Six Artworks based on Ramelton context and history, sited in the Dave Gallaher Park, Ramelton. Each artwork constructed in Limestone with shot-blast imagery, 2M x 1M. aprx. Artworks funded under the HEART Sculpture Trail Programme. Dave Gallaher Park design in consultation with local community group, Ramelton, Co. Donegal, as part of HEART Sculpture trail, Cross Border Ary Programme funded by Donegal County Council and European Community.The artwork took the form of a series of six, curved Limestone Art Benches set into an oval of grass within a small park in the heart of Ramelton, County Donegal. The upper surfaces of each of the slabs, was shot-blast with Imagery and text, which was based on local history, flora, and fauna. Each bench was dedicated to a specific era of history from the Stone Age, up to the present.The artist consulted with members of the local community in the initial design phase of the project and his final artwork proposal was made in conjunction with one specific Community Group - The Dave Gallaher Society, with links to New Zealand and the All Blacks. The local community had an input into the historical and contextual imagery used within the artworks as well as on deciding on the final park design, which was also created by the artist.This artwork formed part of HEART Sculpture Trail, which spans County Tyrone and Donegal. The Commission was selected through an Open Tender Competition and was run by Strabane District Council and Donegal County Council. Funding was awarded via: DARD and Border Action through Measure 1.4 of the INTERREG IIIa Programme, The International Fund for Ireland, Strabane District Council and Donegal County Council, and the Private Sector.
