Abstract

In these municipal interiors the furniture is arranged in authoritarian configurations. In one setting a table is positioned in confrontational opposition to the viewer, its curved sides creating a sense of being surrounded by a faceless authority. In another of these images a closed arrangement of chairs creates a tight, impenetrable circle, closed to the viewer. Each image is suggestive of control, reminiscent of the alienating authority often faced by the protagonists in the writings of Kafka.
