Abstract
A situation specific installation, commissioned by the Dock Gallery for the exhibition, curated by Oliver Dowling, Discussions in Contemporary Sculpture, with Dorothy Cross, Fergus Martin, Kathy Prendergast, John Gibbons and Maud Cotter. This work explores, through a dialogue with a specific environment, the sculptural possibilities of two characteristics of liquid; level and reflection and their ability to interrogate and describe architectural space, (originally investigated as a series of studies on the phenomenon of “Acqua, Alta”, The results of which were exhibited as invited artist representing Northern Ireland at the 51stVenice Biennale). These characteristics are, for the purposes of the current work. expressed as reflective glass discs which both establish level and volume (below) and witness the remaining void (above), whilst allowing the audience to navigate the space ( ref. “20/50“Richard Wilson?).
