Abstract

Drawn stage curtains confront the viewer in this diptych. The shabbiness of the curtains is at odds with their theatrical context. The closed curtains act as a threshold, the space in front empty, the space behind concealed and unknown. They act as a visual metaphor for the act of passing from one space to another, be it physical or psychological.
