Abstract
The means by which we find our way, exhibition and publication, explores the vital role of graphic design within the context of intercultural communication. Over 70 design educators, representing 20 countries engaged in dialogue regarding the role of signage within unfamiliar spaces.Usability, cultural artefact, design-experience and design education are the main themes of the exhibition, which comprises of three distinct parts; personal accounts of unfamiliar environments, visual interpretations of space and a collection of essays on the variety of visual design.The project was featured in issue #32 of the European typography and graphic design journal, TYPO, and has continued its international tour in New Zealand with stops in Kansas State University, Manhattan, as well as Winthrop University, South Carolina.
