Abstract

The Egan report in 1998 highlighted problems in construction supply chains and proposed theintegration of construction processes and products in the quest to deliver enhanced value toconstruction clients. Since then there has been much interest in supply chain management in theconstruction industry of UK, with many organisations claiming to be involved in integratedsupply chains. Hence a need arises for the industry to measure the degree of integration of supplychains. The aim of this paper is to propose a classification model for integration of construction supplychains. In order to fulfil the aim of research, firstly a critical review of literature on existingmodels proposed for various industries to measure performance of supply chains was conducted.Secondly these models were examined in terms of their applicability to the construction industry. The findings allow practitioners of the construction industry to gauge the degree of integration ofthe supply chains they are involved in and to understand how to move to higher degrees ofintegration. The paper gives recommendations for further research to find the correlation betweenconstruction organisational performance and the degree of integration of supply chains.
