Abstract

This series of photographic works depict the most transient elements of the landscape by photographing it in mist and fog, so that the landscape subject is obscured and unfamiliar. In these images fog envelopes each location so that the background disappears from view, leaving only the foreground visible, floating detached from any surrounding context. This series investigates philosophical ideas of the ‘sublime’, developed from the 18th century onward, and places them in a contemporary context. Details: Series of six works, entitled, 'Veil I, II, III' (2006), 'Veil VII, VIII, IX' (2008), colour lightjet photographic prints mounted on dibond, each measuring 80 cm x 100 cm. Edition of three.
