Abstract
220 8-14 year old children in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland answered questions and carried out tasks on their relationship to news media, with particular reference to the BBC's news programme, and website, for children 'Newsround'. Results showed an interest in and knowledge of news among all age groups; a desire for more local and regional news; a desire for more news and other factual material directed at older children - 11-14 year olds (The BBC's children's material is aimed at under -12s) and a preference for television as a 'favourite' source of news; the internet was used primarily for games.
