Abstract

This review will briefly explain the mechanism of electrospray ionisation, discuss the molecules and species that can be ionised by this technique such as proteins, nucleotides, carbohydrates, drugs, pollutants, organometallic and inorganic species. It will also select relevant examples from the recent literature that illustrate the wide applicability of electrospray mass spectrometry when interfaced to HPLC and CE for the detection and determination of such biologically significant molecules, (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
